Veterans Canteen Service Selects Nutricate Solution

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — January 31, 2011 — Veterans Canteen Service (VCS), the U.S. government’s provider of merchandise and services to our country’s veterans, will be launching SmartReceipt’s Nutricate solution in all 180 locations nationwide. Nutricate, meaning “to nutritionally educate,” provides personalized nutrition information and education on customer receipts.

“We really love Nutricate’s ability to provide personalized nutrition information and relevant health tips on the receipt,” explains Marilyn Iverson, director of VCS. “We feel it’s our responsibility to offer as much information as possible on our food choices in order to provide our veterans all the tools necessary to live a healthy lifestyle.”

Every Nutricate receipt will display detailed nutrition information for menu items ordered along with the meal totals making the nutrition information relevant and easy to use. Percent daily values are also displayed to help customers comprehend the information and understand its relative significance in the context of their total daily diet. Triggered by what is ordered, meaningful health tips also print on the receipts to help educate veterans on the healthy choices available in their cafeterias. For example, if a customer orders french fries their receipt could print a message that says, “If you’re watching your diet consider trying fresh fruit or baked tater tots instead of fries and save more than 200 calories.”

“As consumers, we have such a wide variety of choices we can make when dining out,” said Jay Ferro, CEO of SmartReceipt. “Nutricate is intended to give us instant feedback on our decisions and to help us better understand our options so we can all make the choices that are right for us.”

In addition to the nutrition information printed on the receipts, VCS will also be using SmartReceipt’s dynamic couponing tool in its retail stores.

“From a marketing perspective, VCS’s objective is to cross market our world-class merchandise and services within our food and retail environments,” Iverson said. “SmartReceipt’s Web-based enterprise software easily integrates with our POS and is exactly the type of management tool we need in order to accomplish this goal.”
